Fluoridation: 2010 San Diego County Fluoridation Status

The City of Escondido has been fluoridating its water supply since August 2004. As of December 2007, when Metropolitan Water District plus the Helix Water District also began fluoridation, these San Diego County water districts have 100% optimally fluoridated water:

• Carlsbad
• Escondido/Rincon Del Diablo
• Fallbrook
• Helix
• Padre Dam
• Rainbow
• Ramona
• Vallecitos
• Valley Center
• Vista

In January 2011 fluoridation of the water was completed in:
• City of San Diego

• On the City’s website you can enter an address or intersection and find the current fluoride level: www.sandiego.gov/water/quality/fluoridation.shtml
Beyond the San Diego City limits, City water customers in Coronado, Del Mar, Imperial Beach, San Ysidro and part of the Otay Water District do not have optimal fluoridation; they have ongoing fluctuation of lower fluoride levels, also. Once MWD and Helix WD fluoridate their water supplies, Otay will have 100% fluoridated water, as will all the other customers of the S.D. City Water Department.

• Oceanside [very small % blended + own plant]
• Olivenhain [blended in eastern & western border areas only + own plant]
• Otay [about 50% blended/50% optimally fluoridated]
• Lakeside [map:blue area of PadreDam-80% optimally fluoridated/20% wells]
• Yuima [optimally fluoridated MWD water + wells in some areas]
• Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base [2 areas of optimal fluoridation]

These water districts have their own treatment plants and no fluoridation plans, currently:

• Poway
• San Dieguito/ Santa Fe [Rancho Santa Fe & part of Encinitas]
• Oceanside
• Olivenhain [incl. part of Encinitas]
• Sweetwater [National City & South Bay Districts (Chula Vista)]
Other Areas:
• Jacumba - optimal natural fluoridation
• Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base – 0.5ppm average natural fluoridation in some areas + 2 areas optimal from MWD
• Native American Reservations – several optimally fluoridate their water
